Where memory and gathering meet.
This page holds two kinds of dates. Some are cultural observances that shape how I think about heritage, memory, and community, things like the Maafa Commemoration, Fèt Gede, and the start of Makaya season, the kind of dates that don't always make it onto a standard calendar but deserve to be marked anyway. Others are actual events: gatherings I'm hosting, facilitating, or simply showing up to as a participant, alongside milestones and celebrations built for clients across all four pillars. Both belong here, because the way I work doesn't really separate the two. A culture worth knowing shapes the events worth planning.

National Black Business Month
National Black Business Month is an annual observance dedicated to the millions of Black-owned businesses in the United States. It was created to drive the policy agenda affecting African American businesses and to empower Black entrepreneurs and the communities they serve. Throughout August, organisations, consumers and business leaders are encouraged to celebrate Black-owned enterprises, learn about their contributions, and redirect a portion of their spending towards them.
James Baldwin Day
Observed annually on August 2, James Baldwin Day honors the birthday and enduring legacy of James Baldwin, one of the most influential American writers, essayists, playwrights, and public intellectuals of the twentieth century. The observance celebrates his profound contributions to literature, civil rights, social criticism, and the ongoing pursuit of justice, equality, and human dignity.
James Baldwin Day encourages readers, educators, students, artists, and communities to engage with Baldwin's works and ideas through readings, discussions, educational programs, artistic performances, and community events. His writings continue to inspire thoughtful conversations about race, identity, democracy, freedom, and the shared human experience.
The observance serves as an opportunity to recognize Baldwin's lasting impact on literature and culture while reaffirming the importance of critical thinking, compassionate dialogue, and the power of words to foster understanding and positive change.
Alex Haley Day
Celebrate Alex Haley Day on August 11 by honoring the acclaimed author of Roots and The Autobiography of Malcolm X. Learn about his lasting impact on genealogy, African American history, and literature.
Marcus Garvey Day
Marcus Garvey Day is observed each year on August 17 to commemorate the birth of Marcus Garvey, a Jamaican political leader, publisher, entrepreneur, and Pan-Africanist whose ideas influenced movements for Black pride, economic empowerment, and global African unity. As the founder of the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA), Garvey encouraged people of African descent to celebrate their heritage, pursue self-determination, and build strong communities. His vision and advocacy continue to shape discussions about civil rights, cultural identity, and social justice around the world.
Founder’s Day
Observed annually on July 26, Vysyons Communications Founder's Day celebrates the birthday of the company's founder and honors the vision, leadership, and purpose that inspired the creation of Vysyons Communications. The observance recognizes the company's commitment to excellence in communication, innovation, storytelling, and meaningful community engagement.
Founder's Day provides an opportunity to reflect on the organization's journey, celebrate accomplishments, express appreciation to clients, partners, supporters, and collaborators, and look ahead to future goals and initiatives. Depending on the year, the observance may include special announcements, community outreach, commemorative messages, historical highlights, or the launch of new projects.
More than a birthday celebration, Vysyons Communications Founder's Day is an annual reminder of the values, dedication, and vision that continue to guide the organization and its mission.
Nelson Mandela International Day
Nelson Mandela International Day, observed each July 18, celebrates the enduring legacy of Nelson Mandela and his lifelong commitment to justice, reconciliation, equality, and human dignity. The day invites people around the world to honor his example by dedicating 67 minutes to serving others, inspiring positive change, and strengthening their communities through meaningful action.
